Artistic Statement
I
am a former educator living in Vancouver, Canada, who has explored
working in clay as a medium for my artistic expression since university.
I work principally from a home studio where I am now able to spend daylight
hours listening to music and working in clay. I
feel very fortunate, indeed.
I
make objects from clay because I love the search for a beautiful shape –
just
the right curve, the over-all balance and how it sits on a flat plane.
I’m
also influenced by nature. The shapes, textures and colours of natural
objects
are truly inspiring. They can be seen in something as large as the
Grand Canyon
or as small as a pebble that fits in the palm of a hand,
a coastal rain forest
or one tiny patch of forest floor, an Arbutus tree trunk
or one fall leaf from
a maple tree.
I try to breathe some of that natural world into my vessels.
My
current focus is smoke-fired vessels. I also make functional pottery.
